in 1838 This couple Thomas and
Nancy
Mathews came to Illinois in 1840 with the
principle part of the family arriving
in the country, by way of New Orleans and thence to
Illinois.
They where members of the
Old Light, (Reformed Presbyterian) Church, and raised their
children in the fear of the Lord,
as the first great truth of life; than place before them an
example of piety and virtue worthy
of their initiation, and they all became members of
that same church an had lead exemplar
lives, and have made reputable, patriotic and
trustworthy citizens.
